Oh, Dia. You are so much wiser than I! My entire life, not just externally but in the comfort of my pajamas (as you note) I've been flanked by sports fan[atic]s. Be it college or pro ball, there was devotion, and cheering, and schedules orchestrated around games. And I NEVER GOT IT. I still don't. I sort of tried, but maybe not to the level you have, and at this point I'm like, what's the point?
When I wrote about how little I got sports, specifically the Super Bowl, I lost half a dozen subscribers. It was like committing social suicide.
This was delightful and I'm sure will bring on some cheerleading. You might even pick up some new fans. I was one already. :)
Ok that’s crazy for people to unsub after THE BEAUTIFUL VULNERABILITY of admitting to confusion around sports!!! But I’m so glad you enjoyed and hey, maybe you’re next? :)
Well, in all fairness, I wasn't really admitting to confusion. More that I just lack any real connection with most sports. I guess they felt like I wasn't a team player. Haha! 🏀 Thanks for sympathizing, though.
Somewhat irrelevant to the essays main point, which is also interesting (taking up your partners hobby, which is very sweet) but I also find myself standing quite often—it’s certainly better for my back which seems to be worsening as the years pass… nice post!
I think this is something I need to meditate on…I’m thinking of all the things I previously decided were “trash” and now don’t touch. But I was a totally different person then!!!! What if current me loves trash?! I’m willing to bet I do…
Dia. You are literally the only person that could get me to read about sports. The only sports I can stand watching are tennis and surfing. I will always rather play than watch. Playing tennis gives me so much life!
Although I will never be a sports watcher…sports documentaries leave me in emotional SHAMBLES. Im always a blubbering mess after I watch them. I’m still not okay after watching “Gleason”. 😭
I was seriously the same way w the documentaries!! Like give me a good sports movie or doc ALL DAY and I’m beside myself with emotion. But somehow, through my patient husband’s explanations, this whole basketball thing really came together for me. Maybe you’re next 🤭
Absolutely not! 😂 My guy is a surfer and doesn’t really watch any other sports (thank god). Other than the golden era of Manchester United in the late 90’s I haven’t watched sports regularly since.

Dia, you think the knicks are going to win the championship?
I pray, friend. I really pray 😂😩 I’m in a fragile state right now as my fav player Anunoby is out tonight
Those descriptions of Joel Embiid and Tireless Maxey are going to stick with me forever 😭
As a husband who subjects his wife to countless hours of NBA basketball, and has seen said wife gain a greater love for the game, thank you for this.
Can’t wait to watch a Knicks game with you and Andrew
🥹🥹🥹🥹 THANK YOU FAMMMMM. You already know the vibes. I’ve been listening to Roommates podcast in anticipation of tonight LMAO
DUDE YESSS it’s so good hahaha

I fxn love your voice.
It loves you right back :) ❤️❤️❤️
There is nothing hotter (respectfully) than a woman sharing her man's love of sports!
Oh I’m so glad truly because I felt like such a lame-o just tacking onto his team haha. BUT ITS TOO FUN!!
