backreading your substack (discovered it through a restacked quote from your most recent piece) and 1) i love this and 2) the “runners suddenly going into cardiac arrest after/during a marathon” thing could very well be due to previous covid infections — covid’s known for messing with the heart and causing microclots, both of which are bad!

Thanks for reading 😊 and that certainly checks out for the heart thing. Terrifying as someone who’s had Covid 3 times myself 💔

Okay, first off — "an average pace of 8:57/mile" is just amazing.

I loved reading this. I've been ankle injured for 10 months and I love running so much that I'll think I'm better and go out and run ten miles and then limp around in pain for the next few days and promise my concerned wife that I'll only do 3-5 milers until I'm truly better, but it is so hard to not to keep going when I'm feeling good in the moment. This kind of post is a vicarious thrill. I'm half planning a 50k trail race in late February, but not really, since who knows about the ankle.

Congrats on the 20 miles, the great pace, and getting this brutal run out of the way.

I first listened to Mt. Joy two minutes ago: thanks for sharing!

Oh I so love having another crazy runner in this space 🙌🏼🥰 I’m the worst about running on injuries myself hahaha. Take care of that ankle! Would love to hear from you in the future about how the 50k goes!
