Quote of the Week: “Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.”― Frank Zappa
Eating: PB&J on toasted Ezekiel bread. Andrew is a big PB&J guy and he’s put me on to this satisfying meal/snack of my youth. It helps that they’re somehow perfect with coffee.
Currently Reading: Three Women by Lisa Taddeo. Still. I’m sorry to anyone who follows #bbmbooks because I’ve neglected reading for the last week or so. I hope to finish & review over the next few days!
Feeling: Strong and encouraging after starting an important conversation over Instagram this morning. I shared a graphic about the pressure young girls face to let their boyfriends get away with mistreatment so as to not look unchill/controlling. (It’s stated in heteronormative terms, but we all know this applies to any arrangement.) If you express needs to your partner that don’t require sacrificing their selfhood to meet, and they gaslight you out of them, then they probably only value you when you’re making their lives easy. It doesn’t make you “demanding” or a “toxic monogamist” to not want your partner staring at other people, or calling people hot in front of you. I am all for challenging possessive patterns. I’ve been in a relationship that involved a healthy element of sexual openness. But the ways women in particular bend to avoid looking insecure or overly conventional are, *IMO*, symptomatic of the patriarchy. And always remember: what they won’t do, someone else will.
Loving: Lots of tattoos. I want a million on my hands like queen Zoe in the photo above. I have an appointment in January to get a cherub somewhere on my arm (bicep? forearm? tricep? Idk) and so much of me just wants to be like “fuck me up, fam.”
