Eating: Nothing! I’m trying to get back into intermittent fasting to help jump-start my quarantine weight loss. I also bought a treadmill which makes me hyper-aware of the financial privileges of having a partner, i.e. never in my singleness could I comfortably decide one day, “I think I’ll buy this large, unnecessary piece of exercise equipment.”
Reading: This is How You Lose Her by Junot Díaz. I finished The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao a couple weeks ago and for the first time in a long time I was truly transported. Díaz writes with this slangy, Spanish immediacy that thrusts readers into the complex family dynamics of Dominican diaspora (and makes you LOL along the way).
Feeling: Impatient. This morning my Italian teacher and I were discussing US politics, BLM, etc. (in Italiano) and I was feeling so distraught about everything I don’t know how to say. I’m at the point where I either need to practice patience toward learning this language and accept that it’s a slow burn, or crack down on studying outside of my twice-per-week lessons to expedite my fluency. Frustration can be wonderful fuel.
Just Visited: New Hope, PA, which is one of my favorite towns in the world. New Hope is a charming, LGBTQ-proud artist village in Bucks County about an hour outside Philadelphia. Leather-clad bikers line the streets with motorcycles and hippies walk their dogs to grab ice cream down the colorful stretch of Main Street. Andrew and I perused vintage clothing, scored the perfect vintage jewelry box, and feasted on the best baked oysters in the French garden fantasyland that is Zoubi.
Loving: Zebra print. I used to find it painfully tacky but have recently come around to it in a big way. For our New Hope date, I paired this AllSaints zebra skirt with a bleached, rust-colored tank top from Urban Exchange for a loud, eclectic look.
