Yeeeeooooooo first Daily Drip of 2021! I don’t usually begin these with a blurb, but I just wanted to welcome those of you receiving this newsletter for the first time. You can typically expect two pieces per week: one Daily Drip, and one essay of some sort. As the weirdest year of (most of) our lives bleeds on with no true end in sight, I hope you find amusement here—a glitch in the system of despair where love still thrums. Thank you for subscribing.
Quote of the Week: “I'm not telling you to make the world better, because I don't think that progress is necessarily part of the package. I'm just telling you to live in it. Not just to endure it, not just to suffer it, not just to pass through it, but to live in it. To look at it. To try to get the picture. To live recklessly. To take chances. To make your own work and take pride in it. To seize the moment. And if you ask me why you should bother to do that, I could tell you that the grave's a fine and private place, but none I think do there embrace. Nor do they sing there, or write, or argue, or see the tidal bore on the Amazon, or touch their children. And that's what there is to do and get it while you can and good luck at it.”― Joan Didion
Eating: Oats with strawberries, collagen, honey, and peanut butter.
Drinking: My usual half-caf americano with cream.
Listening to: Josh Butler radio on Spotify. Deep house is my oxygen.
Thinking: It’s crazy how much better my days begin when I don’t check my phone for the first couple hours. This isn’t per some New Year’s resolution; I just make a concerted effort when I know I need to have a productive day to not hate myself.
Feeling: Better today than yesterday, but still adjusting to the work week after two weeks off and plenty of hard partying. It’s true, I hung out with friends who were in from California and I feel all the guilt and anxiety and confusion so before you come for me, know that I’ve already come for myself! For anyone interested, I shared my “hangover treadmill workout” to my running account, so check my story on there for a good, easy sweat session (adjust paces to your level/goals).
Grateful for: The kind feedback on last week’s piece. I only have 200-some subscribers on here, but over 1,000 people read that piece thanks to all your shares. Please feel free to check it out if you haven’t yet.
Working on: My first fiction piece! This will be for submitting to publications and contests. I have the story outlined in a chaotic brain dump of a Google doc and started giving it bones yesterday. I’m really excited. I adore fiction (and get so much more out of it than most non-fiction), but never felt confident enough to take a stab at it. Here goes nothing!
Loving: Glam. My style is usually more relaxed, but girls like Bettina Looney and The Attico designers Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini have inspired me to lean into dressier pieces, 70s and 80s inspiration, color, and more. I get so bored seeing the same Princess Polly trends over and over, and this flashy Mediterranean glamour is my antidote.
