Quote of the Week: “Life is the only real counselor; wisdom unfiltered through personal experience does not become a part of the moral tissue.” —Edith Wharton
Currently Reading: The Life of the Mind by Christine Smallwood. As mentioned, this is my first #sponsored review for Penguin Random House. Very cerebral so far.
Just Watched: Ok. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long, but No Country for Old Men. Is Anton Chigurh the scariest antagonist of all time? The captive bolt pistol stunning the cattle of my brain says sí.
Just Purchased: Some new wardrobe staples. It takes a lot for me to legitimately shop beyond like, one item or thrifting, but I’ve actually acquired some good pieces to carry me through the seasons. I did manage to score some of them on Poshmark:
Chunky boots in real leather at a good price
Cream-colored jeans that fit like a glove
The Exercise Dress (I may still be in the OV ambassador system, so try shopping with the code “DOERDIA” and see what happens?)
The best faux leather leggings I’ve ever tried on, thanks to my girl Riliegh
Comfy ‘80s-style shorts. It is *impossible* for me to find shorts that fit, so when I discovered these at Garage, I was floored. Actually, let’s talk about Garage for a second: I’d never shopped there before, but it felt like Wet Seal’s evolution into Brandy Melville and tbh I was kind of with it? It has a shitty reputation, but it was way more on trend and less chaotic than Forever 21. Now I feel inclined to protect it like this secret haven for cheap, trendy finds. I purchased those shorts in blue in a medium for the perfect baggy look. And I got a cropped grey sweater vest that I can’t find online.
I also just ordered a cheap workout set from Amazon, so I’ll let you guys know if that’s any good once it arrives. I’m going on a girls’ trip to southern California in a few weeks and wanted something cute for hiking.
Thinking: About moving. A lot lately. Not knowing where you want to be or where will even feel like home is a tense purgatory, but I know a few things to be ideal: warmth, access to nature, and *at least* some semblance of culture. I could stay in Philadelphia forever and it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but I’d feel some sense of self-betrayal not enjoying a year or two elsewhere.
Loving: Making fresh juices at home. Because I don’t have a juicer, I’ve been using my Ninja and then straining through a cheese cloth, which has worked perfectly. My go-to combo has been spinach, a big carrot, a mini cucumber, a Cara Cara orange, the juice of a whole lemon, parsley, and water.
Working On: Finding an acupuncturist. I may have mentioned scheduling an appointment a few months ago which I ended up canceling, but a friend who had COVID advised that acupuncture was one of the only things to relieve his long-haul inflammation. And to be honest, I’ve felt a second wave of symptoms or something this week since I started running again, so it’s time to break out the big guns… er, needles.
