Eating: Cantaloupe. This yonic fruit feels extra nourishing for me lately. Don’t you see that picture and kind of wanna… ya know…
Currently Watching: The Handmaid’s Tale. Yes, I know I am painfully late on this. Yes, I know election season is the worst time one could tune in. And lastly, yes, I have cried several times at how possible it all feels. *sweating profusely* Anyone else hot in here or is it just the threat of losing my reproductive rights inciting a fiery rage? My b, just global warming… carry on.
Working On: Reading the first round of submissions to my essay contest!!! Yeeeee. If you don’t follow me on Instagram (weird), you can read about that here. I’m really hoping to get more submissions than I know what to do with because I lust for the challenge of choosing a winner (Real Lit Girl Shit™). Men, women, 60-year-olds, 23-year-olds, queer folx, Black folx, successful writers, non-writers, you name it, I want to hear from you! But please, let me reiterate: this is a story and it should have all the trappings. Anyone can tell me they broke up with their partner or had a great one night stand. The winner of this contest will wax nitty gritty and gift readers a true moment of vulnerability. I started The Nut Diaries to share how I developed the romantic tendencies I exhibit today. Your piece is joining the series and therefore should do the same. I encourage you to lock in and take your time; it might be healing.
Loving: Ballerina-inspired style. Plan to read more about this on Thursday.
Feeling: Dejected, as I had to cut my long, pretty nails after too many broke off. I actually wrote a piece about removing my acrylics when lockdown began and how that forced me to confront my relationship with aesthetics. I hope to share it soon.
Listening To: The country music I loved in high school. Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, etc. Contemporary twang has been the soundtrack of my runs the past few days and it’s made me think a lot about where I come from, how it fits within the context of my life in a major city, and who I am today.
