Eating: A wild, nothing-in-the-fridge lunch of refried beans, broccoli, leftover roasted baby purple potatoes and carrots, and this whole wheat roll-up thing toasted with white cheddar cheese, olive oil, and za’atar. Yes, I will be going to Whole Foods later.
Drinking: GTs gingerberry kombucha.
Working On: This week’s post for paid subscribers—an emotional exploration of watching hot naked women on television with my boyfriend, and how my recent change in pubic hair helped me reclaim my sexual identity.
Feeling: Ultrabummed. Sixteen of my friends and I have an Airbnb in Scottsdale booked for this week, and due to the recent COVID explosion, Andrew and I have elected to bail. It’s hard for me to form an opinion on pandemic travel; all I know is I’m honoring what feels right in my gut and the wishes of my partner, and taking a bout of FOMO as reason to hug everyone extra tightly when this ends.
Thinking: About how Repeller (formerly Man Repeller… that rebrand sucked and I’m not sorry) recently dissolved. I have many mixed feelings toward that publication I followed so closely, its founder whose book I read and own, and its evolution that made me feel increasingly distant from the mission each year. It wasn’t just a lack of diversity for me; the pieces started feeling really elitist, like they were written by the art girl at the party who’d never talk to you once she found out your dress was from Zara or that you consume dairy. Maybe that’s just my bitterness/insecurity talking for never getting a pitch published. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this media demise.
