Quote of the Week: “Women have served all these centuries as looking-glasses possessing the magic and delicious power of reflecting the figure of man at twice its natural size.”— Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own.
It’s not that I find this quote particularly earth-shattering nowadays, but that I love imagining the racket it caused in 1929. This is my third book this month (all slim thangs because I’ve been too scatterbrained to read anything normal) that I’ve neglected to review on IG; for anyone following along with #bbmbooks, I’m sorry. I have failed you. I will probably continue to fail you.
Drinking: This heat wave calls for fresh + cold, so I’m back on that simple, refreshing blend of ~1/4 c vanilla Siggi’s, a handful of pineapple, a frozen banana, cinnamon, ice, and water.
Grateful for: The return of live events, because it still doesn’t feel real. Yes, that means I’m getting tickets to a warehouse rave next week that doesn’t even start until midnight and goes until 8 AM… but I’m also happy for those of you doing wholesome stuff, like Mumford & Sons shows or whatever.
Excited for: This week’s episode of The Molly Weinberg Podcast featuring your girl. Molly approached me *Sunday* about being a guest, so the quickness with which it came together actually blew my mind. We talk skincare, sentimentality, writing, online trolls, and more. It reminded me how nice it is to have a real conversation with someone you follow on social media, and the importance of connecting beyond likes.
Just Purchased: These. In pink. Call it a crisis.
Wanting: This spectacular statement skirt from Ganni. I actually don’t own any Ganni which makes me feel like I’m missing out on a big secret.
Working on: This week’s piece, “A Love Letter to Texas.” I decided against doing the usual trip guide featuring everywhere I ate, drank, hiked, shopped, etc. in favor of something more romantic. I’ve always loved personifying places as a creative exercise; I’m such a people person that thinking in those terms helps me understand my world a little easier. I hope you enjoy it.
